Coastal Blues - Get The Look

Coastal Blues

If you are looking to create a relaxed seaside retreat then a palette of blues and whites mixed back with rustic timber furniture and organic textures such as driftwood and cane will do the trick. Finish the look of with some nautical accessories and remember a few stripes in the scheme will add to the coastal feel.

Seaside Style : Blue + White + Patterned

As a designer, I have never really been into pattern,
I tend to like things plain and simple.
But recently I have been totally inspired by patterns
and I'm talking a BIG way.
I have not dipped my toes in the water
with small, subtle prints but I've dived head first into
BIG, BOLD, BRIGHT and COLOURFUL patterns.
Anything goes at the moment geometrics, florals and stripes.

Turquoise + Blue - Beach Style

Turquoise + Blue

Re-create This Look

blue & aqua look

The colour pallete

Colour your home with beach inspiration

White looks great in a beach house with splashes of colour to give it a lift. Bring the outside in, and use ocean tones such as seafoam, aqua, turquoise and navy blue. Keep the key pieces in white and neutrals so you can change your look easily through colour and style by updating your decorator accessories. This way it's easy to mix and match, play with colour and keep your beach house looking fresh and vibrant. Today I am feeling very inspired by this colourful burst of turquoise, aqua and coastal blue - it's uplifting, bold and confident!

Breathe

With a busy week ahead and lots of deadlines -
I just need to remember to stay calm and breathe!
By the weekend, the bigger jobs will be handed over
and everything will be under control.
I always find it very comforting knowing that at the end of the week,
I can head to beach, collect shells, listen to the waves crashing
and the stress of the week disappears with the outgoing tide!

French Navy for Bastille Day

You can never go wrong with navy  - it always look so classic and chic.
Perfect for a seaside vacation.
Keep it simple and stylish with navy, stripes and a pop of orange.

Happy Bastille Day

Tonight we are celebrating Bastille Day
at home in style with roses, candlelight, seafood crepes
and a bottle of good French Wine from the cellar.

My husband and I are at the drawing board planning a small renovation for next year. It was starting to get bigger than Ben-Hur as we made major structurally changes but have now settled on a cheaper, simpler upgrade which involves putting in an internal staircase, floorboards through the kitchen and living spaces, a new kitchen and a new look for my studio. All in all quite a substantial makeover - very exciting stuff. I am having a lot of fun with mood boards, fabrics, paint colours and selecting all new finishes. It's a totally different ball game when it's your house and budget suddenly matters!

Beach House Batik

I am loving this boho beachy look of the batik in a palette of coastal blues.
It gives that whole seventies feel a totally new vibe.
A great relaxed look for a coastal weekender or a holiday house.

Summer Palette Inspiration

Exciting things have been happening in our house - kids are growing up fast and are after a bit more independence so we have been juggling all of the rooms around and freshening up everything as we go. We have a simple, typically Aussie, beach house but the beauty of it is it has 6 bedrooms and 2 kitchens. One large bedroom is now an office with views over the hills and the downstairs kitchen has been converted into a studio for me with a 3 metre layout design table - so we are very well set up for 2 people working from home. The great thing about having all the rooms is we can move bedrooms around when we feel like a change. With this most recent change - we have painted walls, bought new artwork and bedlinen and I even have a girly space set up just for blogging and my hobbies. It's been a bigger job than I planned but it's all looking fabulous and everyone is very happy with their new rooms and our 'beachy' palette of summer blues and aquas!
