1950's Inspired Beach House

According to designers Sanctum Design, this beautiful 1950′s inspired beach house in Manly was designed to compliment neighbouring architecture and celebrate the beautiful beachside environment.

Blonde timber and a light colour palette gives an air of breeziness to this coastal home.

 

I just adore those lights, what a highlight!
Feature pendants are used here to make a real design statement ~
adding both colour and texture.

The mostly white palette is a striking backdrop for splashes of  aquamarine in the lighting and soft furnishings, complimenting the stylish yet laid back feel.

Those chairs are divine!  And I love the three tiered bubble lights overhead.

Pure white with splashes of turquoise…pure style.  And the artwork is superb.

 

The perfect mix of style and simplicity. Coastal heaven!

Architecturally, this house features many of the elnments of my new beach house but unlike our run down interior this one is perfectly finished and styled exactly to my liking. Once I'm done, our house too will have a snazzy white kitchen, limewashed floorboards, the same modular sofa, beachy feature pendants and pale blonde timber furniture. However I think ours will end up with a slightly more relaxed, rustic feel. It's a great inspiration for me!

Made In Australia

Recently I bought Shannon Fricke's book on decorating ~
I'm slowly working my way through it
 picking up some clever ideas and handy tips along the way.

She is Australia's 'It' decorator at the moment and

 her work is appearing all over the place. 

This is one of her little styling project's that I came across in 'Adore' magazine.

It's a very basic coastal holiday rental with a tight budget 

but it just goes to prove that a little styling know how

can go a long way to turn the ordinary

into something that's magazine worthy!

The fitout and the furniture are cheap and cheerful

but the finished result is relaxed, beachy and stylish.

Pennisula Escape

 

On Friday evenings, this Melbourne family breaks free of the city and heads south to their stylish weekender down the coast. Interior Designer Shareen Joel of Shareen Joel Design and co-founder of the online Share Design, leaves her busy city life behind each weekend as she heads to her relaxed holiday home on Victoria’s Mornington Penninsula. This stretch of coast is one of my favourite weekend destinations - Sorrento and Portsea offer great shopping, restaurants, beautiful scenery and pretty beaches. I also like to take long walks around the streets gathering inspiration and ideas from all the gorgeous homes and gardens!

Take a peak at interior designer Anna Spiro's eclectic holiday house on Queensland's Stradbroke Island. Known for her creative and bold mix of colour, prints and pattern, Anna has built herself quite a reputation around the globe. Far more out there then I would ever dare to design (I am strictly coordinated kind of designer) it's people like Anna that encourages me to experiment and push my boundaries a little!

Aussie Beach Style

Re-create this style.

Today I’m showcasing a contemporary Australian beach house photographed by Hannah Blackmore, a well known Sydney photographer – you may have seen some of her work featured in Adore magazine.

This home features many elements I incorporate in my own work, natural stone floors, relaxed oversized modern sofas, freestanding baths and lots of texture. I love the interesting coastal vignettes - this stylish beach house is full of beautiful inspiration and clever ideas.

Palm Beach Cottage

THERE ARE JUST SO MANY THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT THIS AUSTRALIAN BEACH HOUSE...

Located in Palm Beach - it has a rustic, raw element that appeals to me.

It has a very realxed, easy care vibe to it - it looks like the kind of place that you don't have to stress too much about wet towels and sand being dumped on the floor with this low maintenance polished concrete flooring. I like the clean, modern lines yet it still has a rustic beach house vibe to it. I love the chalky timbers, cool edgey styling and great furniture pieces.

The Aussie Beach Shack

When it comes to designing a beach house I like to mix old with new, designer pieces with Ikea bargains and I like to borrow ideas from across the globe. In the same room I might mix Asian and African artefacts with Scandinavian furniture, and if I'm lucky it will all appear harmonious and balanced like it was meant to be! I also like using interesting pieces collected from the beach and sand dunes. Treasures found in nature such as ... shells, branches, stones, feathers, old fishing rods, cane lobster pots, fishing floats, driftwood and vintage boat oars ... all make great displays.
